Stars Of The Lid - Live at the Tripledoor 18.04.2008

Stars Of The Lid - Live at the Tripledoor 18.04.2008

Another first. Here is a great quality live recording of Stars Of The Lid. Possibly one of the best Ambient/Drone/Modern Classical groups out there. Of this particular style of music, Stars Of The Lid are my absolute favourite. Perfect relaxing, studying, chillout music. Although I think you lose a bit of the quality of the experience of what these guys are doing on CD with this particular concert, its still an absolute treat for fans.

No-One Wished To Settle Here - Constant Slapstick and Traveling

No-One Wished To Settle Here - Constant Slapstick and Traveling

A little late but this one gets one of my 'Top 5 best Post Rock albums of the year award for 2008' Its everything I love about post rock. There is plenty of ascending emotional guitar but there is also so much quiet in the tracks. Even in just one track you can go from bird singing in a wood to 'Mono-esk' driven guitars, back to some lazy sunday afternoon ambient sounds, only to arise again like to fall back down to the sounds of a summer fair. It really is an amazing album and above all else its really interesting to listen to, you get taken to so many places. I absolutly love it. I would personally miss out track 01 and just start on track two
I believe this has a creative commons liscence meaning in can be legaly downloaded for free but if not I will take it down. Highly reccomended - The thinking mans Post Rock

An Absolute gem of a concert. Its one of those that has an amazing exciting energy running through. The sound is very clear with Jonsi's voice rising above. I love the drums on this one as well, big powerful hits with plenty of crashing cymbols. I was thinking how I never really comment on Kjartan, Orri, or Georg but I think this is because the keyboards, drums and bass never really stand out but this is not a critism rather the highest compliment. The playing as a whole is so good it allows the mind full scope to just listen, enjoy and drift off. If Georg started playing fancy jazz riffs on his bass it might be cool to listen to but it would distract you from the essence of the Sigur Rós sound. Thanks to Einzack for original upload

This show is simply awesome. I think its the best from 2008. Listen to the guitar change during Ny Batteri - terrifyingly brilliant. Also some different and quite beautiful singing and lyrics on Popplagið. It doesn't get any better than this. Seriously

Epigram - Anything That Comes To Mind - EXCLUSIVE

Epigram - Anything That Comes To Mind - Debut Album EXCLUSIVE

Its rare that I buy an album after just a cursory listen but with Epigram I made an exception. What first struck me and what it is that puts them apart from other Post Rock Bands is the whole range of emotions that you can actually feel coming through the music. There is enough of the 'Rock' to satisfy but its in the quieter moments that you cant help but feel these guys are actually happy. When listening you cant but help be re-minded of 'Explosions In The Sky' but I think in a good way. Actually both these bands remind what it is I like about Post Rock, and that's how a good song can conjure up a multitude of images and with 'Epigram' I really like what I am seeing.
I asked the band if I could post the songs from their My Space site in full 320kbps MP3 so you could more appreciate this great music. I was mightily impressed to find their full album available at iTunes for only £5.00. Enjoy this excellent Post Rock

Our Ceasing Voice - Steadied Stars In The Morphium Sky EP

Our Ceasing Voice - Steadied Stars In The Morphium Sky EP

I had a request to post and review this so here goes. I have to say from the outset, this is excellent Post Rock. Within Post Rock itself, as a genre you can find different styles. These guys are in the realms of BIG and EPIC Post Rock. There is a great theme of grandeur and immensity that runs through this music, a feeling of power. Playing this live you would feel 10 feet tall. I also love the way it goes from walls of Post Rock power to a simple acoustic finger picked tune. This is quite heavy music but if you like that style you will love this. The best thing I can say about 'Our Ceasing Voice' is that they remind me of 'The Evpatoria Report's - Golekva' which for me is perhaps one of the best Post Rock Records ever written.

Track List:

01 - the inevitable fall
02 - of lives once lost
03 - as the horizon's on fire
04 - dazzled eyes are shut.

This EP is available for download at a very reasonable 5 euros+p&p Here

Heima - Audio Commentary

Heima - Audio Commentary - from the band's manager John Best

"The audio commentary is quite light, with only the band's manager talking you might think there was little of interest, but actually he does have some interesting points to make about the music, the tour and the locations. One of the benefits of the audio commentary is taking you through the strong cinematography once again, and sometimes with a few additional insights"

The sister site to Victoryrosemusic - Victory Rose Loss-Less is now up and running. Over time I will be posting a good majority of the concerts found here, in Lossless FLAC audio. I will be starting in 1998 and moving towards 2008. I will be posting in this order as most of the concerts of interest tend to be from the earlier years.
With love - Jon
