Judging by the clips already released I'd say its a pretty good bet this will be the live DVD. The new DVD is ready so..... I think we'll see a new album in 2012 though?
Yes, definitely, this must be the DVD. As they reported, this DVD would be only music oriented, not like Heima. Well, I admit I'd prefer a new album, but this is really good. It has been so many time waiting for a new Sigur Rós album. Anyway, what happened with the Agaetis Byrjun 10th annyversary??? They should released the complete album with the extended versions of the songs (I love the end of Hjartad...).
Finally, Pitchfork said it is a film directed by Vincent Morisset (Arcade Fire's Miroir Noir). It is set to screen as part of Venice Days (22 August). So... what kind of film? What a mystery!
The material they scrapped was from a while ago. They have the bare bones of the album recorded now. As recently reported: Composer Daníel Bjarnason is to work with Sigur Rós on their next studio album. The band has apparently finished some skeletons of songs after having laid low for a while, focusing on other projects and family business. No set release date has been announced as yet but the band has said the album will mark something very new in the band's history. :D

Is it too much to hope that this is concerning a new record?

hmmm... could it be the long-awaited DVD recorded in London some years ago? I'd prefer a new album...

Its no mystery, more that we have been waiting over 3 years and have heard next to nothing about the live concert DVD (as shot mainly in London 2008)
Must be the live DVD - just seen myself on the screen!!!
and what about the new album? they were recording something but they reject the work they had done... what is the situation now, then?

I think Georg recently said a release for maybe end of 2011 but more likely 2012!
Finally, INNI is, as expected, the Live DVD (london 2008) and a double-cd with the whole concert (except one song).
