Lineage: SP-BMC-6 Binaurals --> SP-SPSB-6 @95 Hz --> iRiver H140 + RockBox --> Cool Edit --> FLAC [8] - Mastered > TRacks3 / Ozone 3 / Waves

Full credit to ZzubEvol for doing such a superb job of recording what is not exactly the easiest band in the world to capture. I was so happy to find a recording of from what many people have said, was one the very best performances that GY!BE have given during this historic reunion tour. I haven't done much in the way of mastering as it was already such a good recording. Stunningly powerful with crystal clear cymbals & thunderous drums & guitar this really is one of those special concerts so I must again say thanks to the Taper for their effort & kindness in sharing this extraordinary concert.

1st thing 1st. Thanks SO very much to Thorazine & Chris without whom this post would not have been possible.
Words can't really express the awesome! :) As you can imagine Im very excited about this post, the first new Godspeed we have seen for years. I hope you'll agree its been worth the wait. Nothing of the epic potency has been lost from these masters of Post Rock. As usual Ive mastered this to give something of the 'feel' of actually being at a Godspeed concert.
Again, if I may suggest setting your EQ to zero to begin and changing it to your personal taste if need be. (Tapers notes included in download)

Joanna Newsom - 1st Unitarian Church, Philadelphia 2006.11.16 VIDEO

Absolutely stunning 116 minute video of Joanna Newsom & her band from 2006. It took me a while to get into Joanna's music but at the insistence of a friend I kept listening and now she is one my favourite musicians & lyricists. She is totally enchanting to watch and thanks to 'Schlacking's' stella work we now have this opportunity.

I suggest rejoining & unzipping with 7-zip

Kjartan Sveinsson - Credo & Cage a Swallow Can't You But You Can't Swallow A Cage - 2010.11.15 - World Premiere - Web Cast

I don't really know what to say about this performance because if I start to write about how extraordinarily beautiful I found it I would be here all night! Performed by the 'Latvian National Choir' The Worldless Music Orchestra' and conducted by Jeffrey Milarsky
As with the Riceboy Sleeps below, although this sounds wonderful there is some evidence of audio artefacts due to the nature of the fact it was streamed over the internet and as such there will be (I hope!) a better recording coming soon. However, in the mean time please enjoy this wonderful piece of music from someone whom I believe will soon become known as an accomplished and renowned classical composer

Jónsi - Brand New Song 11.11.10

In a word...Beautiful. I really love the direction a lot of these recent songs that Jónsi has sung for only one or two shows are going. They seem softer than 'Go' more comfortable and mature. Sounds to me like there has been some sort of natural growth of three different types of songs: the songs from 'Go' itself which are very much Nico Muhly influenced, there are the original songs that Jónsi wrote acousticaly and now perhaps a new direction that these new songs that have been appearing in recent months may well signify?

Jónsi - Go Live DVD - Pre Order !

Jónsi - Go Live DVD - Pre Order !

‘go live’ is a film / live album double pack of jónsi’s hugely acclaimed solo show which is still going on as we speak. this beautifully conceived package includes reworked live versions of all of the tracks from the sigur rós singer’s debut solo album, ‘go’, as well as versions of all the other new songs he’s been playing on a tour that’s taken in four continents.

the film

the visual element of ‘go live’ is based around a film of the very first time jónsi and his band played the songs from ‘go’ to people at the final dress rehearsal for the tour in march 2010. filmed by fifty nine productions, the people responsible for jónsi’s celebrated stage design, the movie captures the never-to-be-repeated early stages of the productions development, in front of a small invited audience whose only price of admission was to dress as animals. interwoven with this footage is background interviews and behind-the-scenes clips of jónsi and band on the road, as well as exclusive versions of the unreleased ‘icicle sleeves’, ‘new piano song’, ‘volume pedal song’ and other untitled musical interludes to be found nowhere else. running time is 1 hour 14 minutes.

the album

the live audio part of the package is the entire jónsi hour-and-a-quarter live concert as played this summer, and features still more exclusive content, including ‘stars in still water’, ‘saint naive’, ‘icicle sleeves’ and ‘new piano song’, as well as a powerful live version of ‘sticks and stones’, the song written by jónsi for the end titles of ‘how to train your dragon’. housed in a hardback two disc “book”, ‘go live’ comes with lots and lots of personal pictures taken by the band on the road, throughout the 16-pages inside.

‘go live’ is intended as a finely crafted companion to ‘go’ and ‘go quiet’, and as such is being pegged at a special low price.

The last time Jonsi played in Chicago was back in April. We where lucky to get an amazing recording from Jon G. Yet again Jon has delivered. Superb recording. Huge thanks to Jon G for taping & sharing :)
Jon G's Notes: After seeing Jónsi twice back in late April (at the same venue no less!) I was excited to see Jónsi for a third and final time. Mountain Man was surprisingly better than I was expecting and were enjoyable. Jónsi was just as delightful if not more so than the first leg of the tour, but, this time the incredible stage from 59 Studios didn't make it due to logistical and financial issues. A backdrop used in conjunction with two projectors took its place instead.
Visually the show was not spectacular as the first go around for Jónsi was, but, musically they were refined, and yet again Doddi made love to my ears.
A couple things to note about the recording:
-This time around the show was sold out and the place was packed. Because of this there are quite a lot of outstanding clappers heard between songs as well as a chatty duo to the right of me, although they aren't so bad.
-The sound was mixed much different than the April shows and although I wouldn't say it's better or worse than before, it certainly is cleaner. Whether a new sound man was operating the board or this is the Jónsi sound evolving or both, I can't say, but, it's still oddly pleasurable to listen to just as the previous two recordings are.

The Doors - 1968.09.20 Stockholm Sweden, late show Re master

The Doors - 1968-09-20 - Konserthuset Stockholm Sweden, late show SBD - Re master

This is the first really good soundboard Ive heard of the Doors. I wanted to do a bit of mastering on this show to try to bring the voice out of the mix a little bit. Im not sure I succeeded ! but it still sounds fantastic and perhaps more importantly really captures Jim Morrison at his best. The mix as a whole is a little one sided. I tried to move things around a bit to balance it out but in the end Ive just left it. Strangely enough with the studio recordings of these songs all the instruments are almost exactly in the opposite space within the sound stage than they are in this live recording!
Hope you enjoy this one, a little different from the usual posts.
NB: Ive included the source notes as I couldn't contact the person directly

Jónsi - Brighton 14.09.2010 - (including brand new song!)

Lineage: John Ramsey Signature Mics > ZoomH4 @ 48,000 khz / 24 bit > Ozone Mastering Suite > Flac 8.
Taper: Jon @victoryrose

Last night's concert found Jónsi's voice at one of the most powerful I have heard for a long time. Also by a happy coincidence the acoustics at the Dome where particularly good for his voice and the music. For this reason the concert was recorded at 48,000 / 24bit to give it that little bit of extra depth and clarity :)
Also, to my surprised delight Jónsi sang a !!brand new song!! which I absolutely love.
Over all, a 10/10 concert in every way. The sound surpassed my expectations which has led to this particular concert to being one of the very best we have of Jónsi.
NB: If I may suggest again that you start listening to this with no EQ. Then adjust to your personal preference

I can't begin to tell you how happy I was to be at the Brighton concert to capture this brand new song. I may be slightly bias but I absolutely love it!
The whole concert will be up a.s.a.p.
(Because the acoustic's where better than recent shows I recorded this one at 48,000 / 24 bit for a bit more depth and clarity for the audiophiles amongst us!)

Rakafeed - States

Found this album a while ago and was pretty blown away by it. It really benefits from some good headphone listening time. There are loads of exquisite beautiful & precisely delivered moments here which, for me, really lifts this album above the rest. Hope you enjoy it as well

" Rakafeed are primary arbiter Richard Northen in association with Plan B, Florence and the Machine and Massive Attack collaborator Sally Herbert and guitaristElliot King.
Rakafeed architect, Richard Northen is a master of composition. Already responsible for underground compositions for Slow Moving Mille (actress Amelia Warner) formerSteve Lawler collaborator and Balearic producer Kevin Swain, and the award winning young director Ilaria D'Elia, whose next film he is scoring, he is delighted to be at the helm of Rakafeed's debut.

Featuring seven beautiful, autumn ready compositions, States is cinematic, electronic, complex yet accessible and influenced by classical music. Short-attention-span types will find it challenging, but others will be immersed in the luscious sounds and textures.
"The music is for late at night. It has a sense of expansiveness - it allows you to have random thoughts," says Northen.
Call it ambient or chill-out if you must - but you won't mistake it for just another ambient record"

Jónsi - Leeds 08.09.2010 - New Song!

Good news & bad news! Jónsi gave one the best performances in Leeds last night that I have heard & seen from him a long time. It was just one of those magical times when everything gels. At the end the band came out again to take a bow... which I haven't seen or heard about happening anywhere else.
Anyway, the bad news is, due an annoying technical hitch the recording is mostly un-listenable BUT this new song is :d
- At one point there was a problem with the bass & while they where sorting it out Jónsi started humming to himself. Then he just sort of spun round and played and sang this beautiful song!
I very much regret not having a recording of this concert but Im so happy to have captured this beautiful song which may never be heard again!

edit: The band has taken a bow at at least 4 shows! now I know :)

Jónsi - Lowlands Festival 20.08.2010 Re-master

By far, the very best live recording we now have of Jónsi. In terms of quality, content and delivery this particular show is just stunning and will stand as a landmark concert in years to come. Its a shorter set than usual but this works really well as the pace is much faster than usual making the concert seem more powerful.
Its a real pleasure to see how these songs have developed over the tour. With the 'Un-named New Song' Jónsi has again given another new & powerfully emotive version! Also Sticks & Stones, a relatively new addition to the line up has had any previous glitches ironed out and the way both Jónsi & the band delivers this difficult live song is breathtaking and a real credit to them as musicians. Enjoy :)

Grizzly Prospector - KDVS Radio Phone In 04.05.2010

Wonderful extremely lo-fi mini concert over the phone from the wonderful 'Grizzly Prospector'
"Parker Yates phones it in from Farmington, UT. More great drone-y, brooding folk from this Utahan that could easily pass for a long-lost Depression Era 78 if it weren't for the Everly Bros./Beach Boys/Cat Stevens medley. Hopeful lullabies and fragile death chants for the frayed and unafraid alike"
Grizzly left a comment on the recent post of his 'Old Time Radio' album (HERE) with the following great news:
"currently working on two more releases. one of which includes re-recordings of musics from "old mountain radio". i'll be sure to keep you posted"
~ Thanks Grizz :)

pq / Matt Stevens / Absent Without Leave

Been busy of late and have neglected some promised album reviews. As these superb artists are all different genres I thought it work well to have them in one post:

pq - You'll Never Find Us Here (2010)

'pq' released a 7" a while back which I quite liked but if I'm honest I found nothing 'stand out' about it. However this, their début full length album is simply stunning. In general I would have to say this for me is easily one of the best 'Instrumental / Electronica' releases of the 2010. I say instrumental but it actually includes so many different genres whilst still managing to keep a wonderful undercurrent of gentle joy that reads like a great bedtime book lulling you along in a peaceful, warm yet fascinating journey of musical delights. I don't know what 'pq' has been doing this last year but whatever it is, its working. Highly recommended.
Its a credit to them that they have offered this record for your enjoyment all be it in a low bitrate. I sincerely hope this will encourage folks to buy the CD.

Matt Stevens - Ghost (2010)

A lot of people have already made great comments some of which I will put below. I can only say myself that what Matt does with acoustic guitar is dangerous for amateur guitarists ! After listening to Ghost and some of his other albums Matt's music gives me a kick in the butt for showing me how I could have played if I had put the time in. Fantastic stuff

"A multi-layered, dreamlike sound that’s reminiscent of Radiohead and Sigur Ros" PH balanced

"This is a unique album coming from a unique musician and one i would seriously implore anyone to experience it."Music Mafia UK

"Matt Stevens' Echo takes its audience on an exhilarating and romantic instrumental adventure. Ranging from light and melodic to deep and aggressive, the moods set by this album flow together like a masterfully woven screenplay. Lyrics are not necessary and would only distract from the virtuosity of Stevens' guitar compositions." - Pinpoint

Absent Without Leave - Bon Voyage (2006)

I first heard about 'Absent Without Leave' through the split CD 'Magnitogorsk' with 'Port Royal' and their extraordinary album 'Flares' (one of the best albums in its genre - of all time!) Its with great delight that a few years down the line I can share one of his albums with you (through his kind permission) which I hope will lead you to looking into more of his wonderful music. He has that gift of writing music that just flows beautifully in a dreamy and creative fashion. Almost makes you want to go on a road trip just so you can put one of his CD's into the car stereo! Check out the line up of guest artists on George's new album !

pre-order the new absent without leave album

I am now taking pre-orders for my new album.
The album will be released on my own label sound in silence ( so I have to save up some money for the production of it.
If I get enough pre-orders I hope to release it sometime in September-October, at least.
Every pre-order will be much appreciated as it will help a lot.

This album will feature guest appearances from some good friends and really great artists too, including members of giardini di miro, port-royal, hood, stafraenn hakon, eksi ekso and others too.
It will be packaged in recycled cardboard with the front cover image printed on photo paper and each copy will be unique with a different front cover image.
It will be released in a limited edition of 500 handmade copies that in future will be for sure rare collectible items.
